The Coffeeneuring Chronicles continue. 2020
Coffeeneuring 2020
Yeah, so it's been a shitshow of a year. COVID, work from home time, alone time, not seeing family, Hurricane Sally; Bridge Destruction; Runaway barges taking away our beautiful bridge commute by bicycle after only a month in service; too many things gone wrong, but there's always something to look forward to, especially in times like these. BICYCLING.
We have put some serious miles on the Burley tandem this year. Maybe more than we ever have, especially during these unforeseen times. What else are you going to do? No concerts, no time with friends/family; no socially entertaining things--ugh. Sooooooo glad we get to look forward to the staple of coffeeneuring for exercise and to spend time on the bike. Thanks Mary--keeps us going, for our eighth year this time.
Since the connector to Pensacola will be closed for six to eight months, we'll be trying to support small businesses in Gulf Breeze affected by the bridge Skanska barge disasters during hurricane Sally. 23 of them got loose, with three totally taking out seven sections of our brand new 500 million dollar bridge that has been half completed. Not anymore. the 31000 cars that travel that 6 lane bridge now are diverted down a two lane road made for 5200 cars. It's a total mess, but good things come out of it too. Although we travel to Pensacola much less, we have the beach, and it's pretty vacant right now. This gives us more time on the bike, even though the best stretches are closed right now and will be for a while. We'll get it back though--we always do. Just another reason to hate this ridiculous year. We were planning a 'coffee over water' theme this year too, with multiple bridge stops, but since the barges, we'll have to get creative to have coffee over water:)
Better things--Ride 1 for ONE GOOD THING:
Our first 2020 Coffeeneuring ride this year took us on a round about ride to a nearby Publix to pick up some coffee stout or coffee porter. Although it apparently isn't the season yet, I DID find a limited edition REBEL HARD coffee Pumpkin spice, so all wasn't lost. After picking up a four pack, we rode the tandem to a nearby nature walk over water. I decided to include some hurricane damage along with the beauty of the walk.
This is the first time I've added a little alcohol to the ride. Not gonna lie. I liked it...a lot.
Ride: 8.36 miles
Wind: breezy Delta leftovers heading back, so got a work out in.
Coffee effect: slightly buzzy, but need to stay up for the Saints Monday Night Football game anyway.
